Given my personal standards of comfort, my hotel of choice often determines a pleasant overnight stay. In a previous blog post, I described a few tenets of my favorite hotels: location, style, and lifestyle fit.
A conveniently located hotel (one near restaurants, sights, and public transit) largely determines a trip’s success. Next, an alluring sense of style–the art, the personality, the story woven into the heart of a hotel–appeals to the emotions, drawing me to stay longer (or repeat visits). Finally, hotel amenities complementary to my lifestyle–say, pet-friendly features or fitness-inclined activities–are thoughtful, practical, and appreciated.
I’m pleased to share another favorite hotel of mine that also aligns with this trio of core standards: The Hotel Bardo Savannah.
Hotel Bardo Savannah
As newlyweds, my husband and I stayed at the Hotel Bardo for our honeymoon. We had no trouble luxuriating in all its glamor and splendor. In fact, throughout our stay, it lived up to its motto: as promised, we “[became] pleasantly disconnected from reality.”
This five-star beauty’s newly reimagined facilities are as brightly charismatic as they are luxurious. And we indulged ourselves in the full array: from the scenic views of Forsyth Park, to the onsite wellness spa, to its uniquely adorned cocktail bars.
What makes this one of my favorites? Let’s explore three of its core assets.
Location
As guests of the Bardo, we never needed a car: everywhere we visited was reachable on foot. The hotel conveniently (and breathtakingly) overlooks Forsyth Park, the historic district’s twenty-two acre-park rife with magnolia and ginkgo trees. This verdant, city-central southern
belle is a must on a trip to Savannah. An idyllic stroll under a canopy of trees and a swaying curtain of Spanish moss is a gift for locals and tourists alike.
Venturing into the city on foot is a breeze. Passing through Forsyth Park, you’ll find Savannah’s finest shops and restaurants are easily walkable from the Bardo. Be sure to take a peek down photogenic Jones Street, and pop into unique shops like Asher + Rye and shopSCAD, filled with items made by students and faculty of the local art school.
Style
One glimpse of the Bardo pool deck, with its palm trees, striped umbrellas, and Beverly Hills Hotel palette (peaches, blushes, and corals), one might wonder whether they’ve stepped into a Gray Malin photo shoot. The hotel’s balance of hues–soft pastels offset with rich greenery–strike an appealing balance of sophisticated and inviting.
Club Bardo, the hotel’s private social club bedecked in lovely pale pinks and vibrant corals, appears plucked straight out of the 1960s, attracting guests with beehive hairdos and sleek winged eyeliner. However, present-day guests are just as welcome to stay for a drink, a swim, or a round of tennis.
Lifestyle
Whatever your occasion for visiting, the Bardo’s chic facilities are designed with every guest’s comfort, entertainment, and activity in mind. Book an afternoon appointment of wellness and balance at the Saltgrass Spa, try your hand at a new skill in their onsite cooking school, or hop into one of their group fitness classes. Shopping enthusiasts will love the convenience of the hotel’s onsite boutique, Shop Bardo.
Planning a visit to Savannah? Do location, style, and lifestyle influence your choice of hotel? If so, I highly recommend booking the Bardo faster than you can say, “Bless your heart.”
