The Livingston Hotel: Brooklyn’s First Hyatt Hotel

Watch out, Brooklyn: there’s a new Hyatt in town.

The Livingston Hotel, a lifestyle boutique and the newest addition to JdV by Hyatt hotel collection, opened in Brooklyn on March 10th. As the borough’s first Hyatt hotel, the Livingston boasts an enviable location, accessible to the area’s best cultural, dining, sporting, and shopping scenes.

The culture of Brooklyn emanates throughout the Livingston’s interiors, from its industrial facade, to the mesmerizing restaurant walls, to the eclectic art in each room. Neon wall signage (#livin’itup) and a butter yellow sign in cursive above the entrance bring a spirited sense of playfulness.

Location

Location is king for this new hotel: it sits in the heart of the Cultural District at the junction of three prime-real-estate neighborhoods: Boreum Hill, Downtown Brooklyn, and Fort Greene. Fort Greene’s namesake park, a ten-minute walk away, hosts a weekly market and other activities.

Avid walkers can reach the famous DUMBO Manhattan Bridge view in thirty minutes on foot, enjoying a vibrant and scenic route through downtown. Also walkable is Barclays Center, baseball stadium to the Brooklyn Nets and a popular concert venue.

Hop in a taxi and zip north to Brooklyn Bridge Park, overlooking expansive views of the East River and known by many as one of the most memorable and scenic parts of the city.

Dining

Foodies will delight in the Goldfinch Cafe by day and the Grove Lantern by night. Take away fresh coffee and a pastry from the former, and indulge in a meal featuring house-baked breads and locally-sourced dishes in the full-service latter (though no one would fault you for stepping out for a slice of Brooklyn’s famous pizza).

Beyond the hotel, Brooklyn’s neighborhood favorites are at one’s fingertips, from fried chicken spot Pies ‘n’ Thighs to Jewish diner/deli/bagelery Gertie. And, naturally, a slice of Brooklyn-style ‘za can be found at one of many pizzerias in every walkable direction.

Culture

Out-of-towners can expect Brooklynites’ strong sense of community to exude in their friendly demeanor. While Manhattan’s fast-pace helped earn New York’s moniker as “the City that Never Sleeps,” Brooklyn’s nicknames (“City of Trees,” “City of Homes”) nod to its more neighborly environment.

Inside a fifteen-minute drive (sans traffic) are the Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Brooklyn is also home to a thriving art scene for art buffs of all enthusiasms. Bushwick’s artist community is evident from its lively cafe scene, art galleries, and boutiques. In DUMBO, you’ll find an array of gallery shows, wall murals, sculptures, and projection-video-based artwork on view.

Getting Around

Conveniently, the subway is a quick walk from the Livingston. Guests who wish to venture beyond the borough are a mere 15-minute subway ride from Manhattan. For a pretty waterfront view in transit, the Fulton Ferry District and South Brooklyn Ferry are both inside a twenty-minute drive.

Laguardia Airport lies a mere 11 miles away, followed by Newark airport at 14.5 miles, and JFK at 16.

Visitors eager to experience the creative culture and relaxed pace of Brooklyn should book their room at the Livingston for an experience as unique as its location.
